LSU introduces Ed Orgeron as head coach

Posted November 29, 2016

A person familiar with the situation says LSU has made a decision to keep Ed Orgeron, giving the interim football coach the job on a permanent basis.

Both The Advocate in Baton Rouge, La., and footballscoop.com reported that LSU had agreed to give Orgeron the job and said the school will hold a press conference at noon Saturday.

Orgeron was asked about his offensive philosophy and the reports that he's be pursuing Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin. Yahoo Sports' Pat Forde is reporting that Charlie Strong will be fired by Texas Saturday morning, paving the way for the hiring of Herman.

Orgeron has gone 5-2 since taking over for Miles, who was sacked September 26 after LSU, which entered the season ranked No. 5 in the AP preseason poll, started 2-2.

Orgeron landed back in his home state a year ago as defensive line coach, and he was the obvious choice to replace Miles on an interim basis when he got fired in September, given his experience and recruiting ability. He was 6-2 as USC's interim coach in 2013 but did not get the permanent job.

Microsoft Surface Phone May Have Delayed Surface Book
In the email, Panos Panay revealed that the company will be offering a dedicated support line for the new Surface Studio owners. Microsoft continues to accept preorders for the Surface Studio, but the new devices will not ship before "early 2017".

Alleva stated Orgeron was the only candidate to receive an official offer from LSU for head coach.

Doeren returning at N.C. State • North Carolina State says Dave Doeren will be back for a fifth season as the Wolfpack's coach. He also was head coach at Ole Miss from 2005 to 2007.

In three seasons at Alabama, Kiffin has done for the offense what Orgeron wants to happen at LSU. "We're going to take our time and bring the best staff that we can in".

Okay, so maybe we're not giving Eddie O enough credit, but it's hard to really come to the realization that this closes the gap in any way with Alabama, which is the goal at LSU.

Orgeron said he expects to lure an elite offensive coordinator who'll be adept at running a spread offense, which he sees as a requirement in the modern game. LSU is known for having a cooky personality like Les Miles on the sidelines (just as the Saints have Sean Payton), and LSU fits that bill.

Being a players' coach might end up serving Orgeron more than being a guy meticulous with the x's and o's. Fournette rushed for 284 yards in a 38-21 win over Ole Miss, while Derrius Guice rushed for 252 yards in a 38-10 win over Arkansas and 285 yards in Thursday's 54-39 win over Texas A&M.

We also applaud Miles for his gesture of goodwill towards the man who took his job.

The rebuttal: Stovall, a former LSU all-American and former Tigers' assistant, was an emergency hire when newly hired head coach Bo Rein was killed in a plane crash less than a month after Rein was hired to replace Charles McClendon. The university is paying a $9.6 million buyout to Miles.

Orgeron called his mother with the news Saturday morning.

Alleva asserted that there is ample evidence that Orgeron has grown since then.
