Federal Bureau of Investigation arrests man planning attacks in Myrtle Beach

According to the station, federal authorities say that McDowell indicated on January 6 that he was looking for a gun and met an undercover FBI employee about a week later at an unidentified hotel in Myrtle Beach. A day later, the Federal Bureau of Investigation identified a message on Facebook Instant Messenger from McDowell in which he was looking for gun, using the slang term "iron" for the weapon.

On Wednesday, they met as planned, and McDowell allegedly bought a.40 caliber Glock and ammunition from the agent for about $109, the document states.

Horry County police told federal investigators that McDowell had "established connections" to white supremacy extremists while serving time in a SC prison, and that he also has tattoos indicating affiliations with these groups.

Court records show that since 2008, McDowell has several convictions for burglary and a conviction for assault.

He went on to say that Jews were "here to destroy the white man". Agents found a marijuana cigarette, a cell phone, the handgun and the ammunition.

McDowell was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, but was then released on Thursday into Federal Bureau of Investigation custody.
