Southern California rain eases, road closures remain

A 55-year-old man died after being electrocuted in the Los Angeles area when he came in contact with a downed power line.

As of 12:45 p.m. PT (3:45 p.m. ET), flight-tracking website FlightAware.com reported more than 170 cancellations at San Francisco International Airport, 105 cancellations at Los Angeles International Airport and 110 cancellations at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana.

In Studio City, two cars had fallen into a 20-foot wide sinkhole at 4245 N. Laurel Canyon Blvd., two blocks south of Moorpark Street, and one of the drivers had to be rescued by the LAFD. In California it's caused sudden flooding and many people have had to be rescued from their cars.

"At one point the wind was so strong I'm surprised it didn't blow my windows out", retiree Phoenix Hocking said in a Facebook message from Carpinteria.

Meteorologists said it was the worst storm to hit California in years.

California Highway Patrol reported that a auto struck multiple vehicles, killing one person and leaving three injured after hydroplaning on across Interstate 15 in San Diego.

Officials warned of further major downpours in the central and northern part of California, issuing storm and flood warnings for late Monday into Tuesday.

One of the people killed was found in a flooded vehicle in Victorville, San Bernardino County, firefighters said without providing details.

Powerful winds capable of downing trees and powerlines were also expected, along with heavy snow in Southern California's mountains.

The approaching rain could cause more problems in Northern California, where damage to spillways of the Lake Oroville dam forced the evacuation of 188,000 people last weekend.
