Boy dies after being left in SUV outside Florida day care

Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office told Bay News 9 the boy, Jacob Manchego, 2, was "left in a hot SUV between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m". That's when, at around 2:30 p.m., she discovered the child, who was unconscious.

Investigators say a child has died after being left in a hot auto all day outside a Brandon shopping center on Tuesday.

After returning to her auto and finding Jacob, the woman got him out of the vehicle and carried him to a dialysis center in the shopping center. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue arrived and took Jacob to the hospital where he later died.

The two-year-old was in critical condition while being transported to Brandon Regional Hospital, where he died late Tuesday afternoon.

The day care described Jacob as a "sweet little boy" who loved to give hugs and had a "remarkable laugh". Authorities were speaking to the 21-year-old woman as well as other witnesses.
