A petition filed by Goa Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Chandrakant Kavlekar seeking stay on the swearing-in of Parrikar as the chief minister.

The BJP, which won 13 seats in the 40-member Goa Assembly, managed to garner support from other parties and Independents to attain majority under Parrikar.

Two of the three Maharashtrawdi Gomantak Party MLAs, Sudin Dhavalikar and Manohar Azgaonkar, too, made the cut with Independent legislators Govind Gawde and Rohan Khaunte.

Meanwhile, BJP and Congress welcomed the Supreme Court order expressing confidence in proving their majority during the floor test.

Parliament Has Now Given Theresa May The Power To Begin Brexit
The prime minister said her timetable of triggering formal negotiations by the end of March remained on track. The Queen will approve the Government's Brexit Bill in days, Theresa May has said.

"You can not have an order behind his back", the judges said, adding that the Congress party had not based its pleadings with hard evidence on the number of legislators supporting it. However, Congress MLA Thounaojam Shyam Kumar, who has reportedly joined the BJP, was conspicuous by his absence.

"The assembly elections in Goa produced an inconclusive verdict".

But the BJP has moved and appear to have stumped the Congress by engineering defections of Shyamkumar and managing Robindro, even though it was not clear which Ashab uddin would go.

The move followed the newly-elected BJP legislators passing a resolution demanding the return of Parrikar as chief minister. When I tweeted this, I was accused by a Congress spokesperson of justifying horse-trading and the failure of the governor to invite the single largest party to form a government. Manohar Parrikar has been sworn in as chief minister in Goa and N Biren Singh, leader of the BJP legislature party, has been invited by the governor in Manipur to form the government. "You had enough time, there is not a single affidavit from any member who supports you", the bench said.

Moreover, the party could have protested before the state governor and convince her by presenting the list of supporters.
