Ford Recalling over 400000 Vehicles

Posted March 30, 2017

The repairs include a new recall to prevent engine fires and expansion of an ongoing campaign to fix doors that could swing open while the vehicle is in motion.

Ford is recalling 230,000 Escape SUVs, Fiesta ST subcompacts, Fusion midsize cars and Transit Connect vans with 1.6-Liter turbocharged engines from 2013 through 2015. Instead, Ford will mail instructions to owners reminding them to check their coolant levels, refill the coolant, and schedule service if the coolant "frequently" needs to be topped off. Engines can overheat when coolants don't circulate properly, resulting in a crack in the cylinder head that allows oil to leak onto hot engine surfaces, the Dearborn-based automaker said. Ford has 29 reports of fires, but no injuries.

Ford said it knows of at least one accident and three injuries within the 2 million cars it recalled in September.

Ford Motor Company is expanding a previously announced safety recall regarding door latches to include approximately 211,000 more vehicles.

In the affected vehicles, the pawl spring tab in the side door latch could break.

Ford's second recall expands on an earlier recall involving door latches. The Ford reference number for this recall is 17S09. This can negatively affect the car's structural integrity, which can increase the chance of injury in a side-impact collision.

The truck recall effects about 548 vehicles that may experience driveline vibration caused by a powertrain system resonance condition that come on at speeds of more than 75 miles per hour, according to the automaker. Continued operation of a vehicle at these speeds could result in a resonance frequency that may fracture transmission and/or driveline components, Ford said. Dealers will swap out the two-piece driveshaft with a new three-piece driveshaft and install two center bearing brackets.
