Effort To Curb Distracted Driving In Tennessee

Texting is the most alarming distraction.

"We put patrols out there and we do check points to sift out people who are driving distracted", said Trooper James O'Callaghan, with NYS Police.

"Tennessee Highway Patrol has provided a marked bus that law enforcement individuals are going to be on to spot distracted drivers", THSO spokesperson Arriale Tabson said.

"We encourage everyone to take the "It can wait" pledge to keep your eyes on the road, not your phone, and help keep our roads safe", AT&T California President Ken McNeely said in a statement.

"I would say we see quite a few violations as a result of distracted driving", he said.

According to distracteddriveraccidents.com, every year, about 421,000 people are injured in crashes that have involved a distracted driver.

This bus tour does more than just spread distracted driving awareness - it also enforces it. April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and Allyse Christensen from the Utah Department of Transportation joined Good Morning Utah to talk about the risks associated with distracted driving. The tickets were a combination of talking on a cell phone without a hands-free device, texting, or using an electronic device while driving.

He estimated 400,000 Cambodian adults have depression , in line with the global figure of 300 million people, or about four percent of the world's population.

The enforcement campaign runs from today through April 23rd.

Under Minesota's No Texting Law it's illegal for drivers to read, send texts and emails or access the web while driving, that includes while sitting a stop sign.

"The roads have been increasingly riskier over the last 10 years and distracted driving is one of the biggest causes", Atchley said.
