Man jumps into icy water to save dog from frozen pond

Police say a 93-year-old man fell into an icy Vermont pond while trying to rescue his dog and died.

Dog is known as man's best friend, but sometimes man returns the favour, as demonstrated by a pet owner in Canada.

While setting up the cameras for the reportage, the crew caught a glimpse of what seems to be a man talking to someone who was supposedly in the middle of the ice-covered pond.

Attempting to get ashore, Mciver and Cosmo plunge through the thin ice again before reaching dry land.

"As soon as the ice broke, I just went right in", he added.

Video shot in Alberta, Canada shows Duncan McIver's french bulldog, Cosmo, struggling in the icy water as McIver sprints to his rescue. The city's firefighters said since Thursday they had been called to three ice rescues.

A CTV Edmonton crew shooting footage of the pond for a segment about ice safety captured the moment McIver followed Cosmo's path and ended up in the freezing water with the canine.

"Your adrenaline is going pretty hard so you don't even really notice the cold until after the fact", he said.
