Android users can now use Instagram offline

Facebook had its F8 developer conference yesterday, and among the many announcements the company made, was a new feature for Instagram.

Instagram users in regions where internet connectivity is low will now be able to access the services even while offline.

Instagram's Android app will now let you browse content that's previously downloaded in your feed, giving you the ability to like, save, and comment on posts and unfollow users even while you're offline. While none of that would happen in real-time without a connection, it certainly will once the person's device connects to data again.

This new Instagram development is particularly useful when you are online in areas where the Internet access is unreliable. Or you know, maybe you'll go camping one day and need to get in some fresh, fresh likes. TechCrunch has been told by Instagram that an iOS version is being "explored".

With the increase in the number of monthly active users, Instagram seems to have chose to follow the footprints of the Facebook app. Screenshots from Android Police show the app providing messages saying you're offline and the actions will be "updated when you're connected". Instagram could have drawn inspiration from Facebook lite that had around 200 million users after a year of rolling out.
