Patriots sign Super Bowl hero Butler, may trade him

The New England Patriots have re-signed cornerback Malcolm Butler, the hero of their fourth Super Bowl victory, to a restricted free agent tender contract.

=If the Saints do wish to trade pick 32, two or three additional draft picks from another team may be more enticing than Butler, who New Orleans would then look to sign to a long-term deal.

He was a paying passenger sitting on our seat in our aircraft and no one should be treated that way. "I'm not going." Dao says. Alderman Mike Zalewski says he does not know who will represent the airline before the city council's Aviation Committee.

Because a player can't be traded unless he is under contract, Butler's status was in limbo until he signed the $3.91 million tender.

The New England Patriots' front office just had a busy Tuesday afternoon and it ended with the team potentially acquiring the power running back their offense needed and retaining their shutdown cornerback.

"I think our philosophy has always been that we want to put good football players on our football team, regardless of position", Caserio said. Butler was named to the Pro Bowl following the 2015 season. If they did and the Patriots refused to match the offer, the Saints would have had to send the 11th pick in the first round as compensation.

The Patriots' other home opponents in 2017 include the Houston Texans, Carolina Panthers, Los Angeles Chargers, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins and New York Jets. There's also a decent chance they make a trade before the draft in hopes of getting back into Day 1. But it doesn't preclude the Patriots from keeping him in 2017, either.
