Diamondbacks catcher Chris Iannetta hit a home run in the third inning to tie the Pirates, 1-1.

The Pirates have been outscored 34-7 on the trip and have scored only 23 runs in their last 10 games, losing eight.

Down at Chase Field on Friday, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Arizona Diamondbacks will be continuing their Major League Baseball series. Red Sox pitcher Craig Kimbrel (2-0) got the final five outs as Boston snapped the Brewers' three-game winning streak.

In the case of Goldschmidt, the veteran first baseman has reached safely in 24 straight games in Chase and that represents the second-longest streak of his career (31 games from Aug 9, 2015 through April 8, 2016). He has been plagued by inconsistent support, having received one or fewer runs of support in five of his starts. He had narrowly missed a homer with a foul ball to right earlier in the at bat.

"Hopefully they come in bunches now, because it has taken a while to get there", Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said.

Down 1-0, the Diamondbacks tied the game at 1 on Iannetta's mammoth shot off the batter's eye in straightaway center field to lead off the third. "I saw him get hit and his reaction, screaming afterwards, I knew it wasn't good. My swing got shorter".

"Any time there's head trauma, anytime there's something that hits you in that area you are never comfortable until a diagnosis has been made", Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said, per Gilbert. "It was a great moment of celebration". First baseman Paul Goldschmidt has reached base in 23 consecutive games at home, the second-longest streak of his career after he did so in 31 games from August 9, 2015, to April 8, 2016.
