'The Mummy' Shows No Signs Of Life At The Domestic Box Office

The movie is now maintaining a rotten score of 17 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. As it turned out, the movie earned an estimated $32.2 million, underperforming against its own lowered expectations. It's also also a better second-weekend hold than every Marvel Cinematic Universe film to date; the closest was Thor with a 47% hold.

This weekend, the movie managed to gross over $20 million domestically and $60 million internationally.

"There are so many characters that intersect in so many ways that are exciting for us", he added. It's the lowest opening for any "Mummy" film since its modern revival, which began in 1999 in a remake starring Brendan Fraser. Cruise plays the man who discovers the tomb of Ahmanet and unleashes her powers. Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, and Russell Crowe are also in the mix. This project did not get the Dark Universe off to a strong start critically, though, with just a 17% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Hasn't worked out well so far, unless you're one of the handful of moviegoers with fond memories of "Van Helsing" or "Dracula Untold". While most of the world was enjoying Cruise's attempt to breath life into Universal's planned (but probably cursed) Dark Universe franchise with The Mummy, the United States was going to see Wonder Woman again.

At the time of its reveal, Sony expressed extensively about wanting to find a way to make the main character more mature. Last month's 2018 release leak was confirmed, as God of War has been slated for releaes early next year.

"Every movie is it's own DNA", Duncan Clark, Universal's president of worldwide distribution commented about the "Dark Universe". This plane crash sequence went viral for the wrong reasons when it featured prominently in The Mummy's first teaser trailer. "There will be a lot riding on Bride of Frankenstein". The movie fared far better overseas with a winning $141.8-M from 63 markets, Mr. Cruise's best global opening. Cruise with reunite with "Edge" director Doug Liman for Universal's "American Made". With a performance that weakened over its opening weekend, it scraped 4.30 million for fifth place.

The other major problem is that the film feels like it was shot from three different scripts (a horror, an action blockbuster, and a comedy) that were accidentally dropped on the floor and scooped up into a pile but never sorted out.

The domestic flop has earned $141.8 million overseas, more than four times what it's earned in the states. Fate of the Furious, the most recent installment in the Fast and Furious franchise, made nearly $225 million domestically but more than $1 billion internationally. And "Beatriz at Dinner" from Roadside Attractions is gobbling up $139,000 from only five spots.

"Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie", $12.3 million ($1.7 million international).

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales continued its fast fade with a fourth place gross of $10.7 million from 3,679 theaters.
