Hawaii has become the first USA state to enact legislation to bring its environmental standards in line with the Paris climate accord, officials said on Wednesday, less than a week after President Donald Trump announced that the United States would withdraw from the global agreement. David Ige signed two bills yesterday (June 6) that will implement portions of the agreement. Pittsburgh is one of almost 250 cities in the United States, representing 56 million Americans, whose mayors have committed to honor and uphold the goals of the Paris Agreement.

"We are especially aware of the limits of our natural environment", Ige said, as reported by NPR.

"Hawai'i is committed to environmental stewardship, and we look forward to working with other states to fight global climate change". He says he was motivated by the signs of climate change he sees daily in Hawaii: "Tides are getting higher, biodiversity is shrinking, coral is bleaching, coastlines are eroding, weather is becoming more extreme". Much of the bill's language makes reference to the worldwide scope of the problem, and celebrates that almost every country on earth came together to dedicate resources to fighting climate change.

So did the decision by her predecessor, David Cameron, to call the referendum on European Union membership in the first place. And perhaps some of those MPs who voted for Article 50 in the Commons and the Lords back in March now regret doing so.

Gov. David Ige signed SB 559, which works to expand efforts in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in agreement with the worldwide agreement.

Sen. J. Kalani English, the senate majority leader who introduced SB 559, said the the state law will give lawmakers a "legal basis to continue adaption and mitigation strategies" for the state, "despite the Federal government's withdrawal from the treaty".

Ige also signed a bill Tuesday to form a task force to study how agriculture and aquaculture in Hawaii can help sequester carbon dioxide. The United States is now among only three countries globally who have opted to not participate in the accord.

In 2015, 195 countries agreed in Paris to set individual targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, with the shared goal of limiting the rise in average global temperatures to less than 2 degrees Celsius. With Trump pulling out of the agreement, the US will join only two other countries that have not ratified the pact: Syria and Nicaragua.

In his written testimony, Comey described a March 30 phone call where he said that Trump stressed "the cloud" of the Russian Federation investigations was "interfering with his ability to make deals for the country and said he hoped I could find a way to get out that he wasn't being investigated".
