Celtics aiming to pair Gordon Hayward and Paul George

That's the plan Boston reportedly is hatching in the week leading up to the July 1 start of free agency.

The Celtics, for their part, are confident that George will sign a long-term deal if they get Hayward first. Boston has a strong enough collection of assets to make the deal, but without Hayward in the fold will likely wait until the pieces fall into place.

According to The Vertical the Boston Celtics are planning on an aggressive summer with a potential signing of Gordon Hayward and moving assets to the Pacers for Paul George. By opting out of the final year of that deal, Hayward will leave $16.7 million on the table but he can get more money from the free-agent market.

Boston would need to make a few roster moves to fit both Hayward and George on the roster in terms of salary cap. Staying healthy always has been a concern for the Clippers forward, and he hasn't played 80 or more games in a single season since 2013-14. However, the draft came and went without a Paul George trade coming to fruition. The Celtics and Pacers were close to a deal on draft night, according to Wojnarowski, but a third team involved ended up causing a breakdown.
