China ready to mediate between Pakistan, India

Opposition leaders were on Friday briefed by the government on the stand-off with China and the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting was attended by top opposition leaders including Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mallikarjun Kharge (Congress), Sitaram Yechury (CPI-M), Mulayam Singh Yadav (Samajwadi Party), Tariq Anwar (NCP), Sharad Yadav, KC Tyagi (JD-U) and Derek O'Brien (TMC).

Troops from the two sides then confronted each other close to a valley controlled by China that separates India from Bhutan - a close Indian ally - and gives China access to the so-called Chicken's Neck, a thin strip of land that connects India to its remote northeastern regions.

The Government of India is not apprehending worsening of the situation along the worldwide border with China despite the face-off in the Doka La area in the India-Bhutan-China tri-junction and efforts are on at political and diplomatic level to resolve the issue.

"International community accepts Kashmir dispute where an entire population is being subject to extreme oppression for demanding the resolution of that dispute and an end to their suffering", Mirwaiz said.
