'Best ever' GCSE results for Hans Price Academy students

The proportion of students achieving passes in both English and Maths (Grade 4+ under the 2017 system and Grade C+ under last year's system) has increased.

100 per cent of students were awarded A*-C grades in Art, English Literature, additional maths, physical education, physics, religious studies and Spanish whilst 98 per cent gained the same top grades in maths.

"I was most anxious about maths but I got an 8, close to a 9", said Jayden.

There were many outstanding performances across the full ability range with a significant number of pupils achieving the highest grades 9, 8, 7, A*, A across the board. The teachers here have really helped me over the last 5 years and I'm very grateful for all they have done.

The number grading system has more higher grades available, with grade 4 being seen as a "standard pass" and the minimum level that pupils need in English and Maths- replacing the C grade.

The top two marks of A and A* are roughly equivalent to a grade of 7, 8 or 9 - but fewer grade 9s will be awarded as the grade is created to recognise exceptional performances.

ONE Holyrood pupil has topped the class after receiving the top grade for every subject she Saturday.

"Across all subjects 87 per cent of students achieved at least one A*/A grade or equivalent".

At Hans Price Academy, in Marchfields Way, Weston-super-Mare, the students were in high spirits as they opened their results, with 98 per cent of students gaining five or more GCSEs.

Pupils sat new Welsh-specific exams in English language, Welsh language, English literature, Welsh literature, maths - numeracy and maths.

Isaac, 16, said: "I was very nervous but it has been good. It's fantastic, especially, after the turmoil of the new exams; students have done brilliantly, so well done to them and the staff".

The school described this as a "huge relief" amid the changes and uncertainly around where grade boundaries would be set.

"The staff have worked tirelessly with the students to ensure that they are not disadvantaged by these changes and the results this year are testament to that".
