Cabinet reshuffle: Jaitley, Swaraj, Gadkari meet at Rajnath Singh's residence

According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to re-shuffle his Cabinet on Sunday before leaving for China to attend BRICS summit.

Highlighting the need to strengthen data analytics and investigation wing of the tax department, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday asked tax officers to use data analytical tools to proactively track and determine undeclared income and wealth.

"A process has been set in motion for the swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan around 10 am on Sunday", a government official told PTI.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD (U) which had joined NDA after walking out of "Mahagathbandhan" might get two berths in the new Cabinet.

"I have to tender my resignation as the state Union Minister, as Uttar Pradesh is a huge state and there are lots of responsibilities", Pandey said, adding that he will be meeting Prime Minister Modi regarding this.

Modi, in reshaping his cabinet, is likely to factor in key legislative assembly elections in several states including Karnataka, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh to be held by next year.

While Jaitley shedding the defence portfolio is a distinct possibility, Dr Harshavardhan, who is holding more than one portfolio, may also be relieved of one. Modi is also seeking to improve governance before he seeks re-election in 2019.

The newcomers in the Cabinet will mostly be from the allies, Janata Dal (United) and AIADMK.The AIADMK's Thambi Durai and K Venugopal are being seen as among the likely representatives of their party if it joins the Modi government.
