Crystal Palace fans react to Jeffrey Schlupp's performance against Southampton

Posted September 18, 2017

Crystal Palace became the first club in top-flight history to lose their opening five games without scoring after losing 1-0 at home against Southampton on Saturday.

Steven Davis's goal in the sixth minute was enough to give the visitors the victory and inflict a fifth defeat in five on the Eagles.

The figures are even more worrying if you take into account the end of last season: the Eagles have now been goalless in nine of their last 10 Premier League outings.

After giving Hodgson such a warm welcome and backing even when behind at the break, some of the Palace faithful lost their cool when Ruben Loftus-Cheek's number was held up.

It is fair to say that Crystal Palace have endured a dismal start to the season.

"I have very good memories of those times and the people I worked with and the players I worked with, but unfortunately, it's over".

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson predicts more "painful" times ahead for the club after they made it five straight losses in the Premier League.

England failed to win any of their three group games and were dumped out before the knockout phase for the first time at a World Cup since 1958.

But where does their shocking start stand amongst the Premier League's worst after the same amount of games?

Hodgson, who was also approached when Sam Allardyce was appointed to succeed Alan Pardew at Palace in December, takes on his first managerial role since resigning from the England post after Euro 2016.

Paul threatens to block defense bill amendments
Paul, along with a number of other supporters from both political parties, has long criticized the scope of the resolutions. Paul has already held up consideration of this year's National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) twice over the issue.

"Today I thought it was a disappointing performance", said Hodgson on what was his first taste of management since England's defeat to Iceland in the last 16 at Euro 2016 almost 15 months ago.

Roy Hodgson described defeat in his first match as Crystal Palace manager as a painful experience and said his principal task is to prevent his players "digging themselves into a grave".

The 70-year-old said: "Today we met a team who performed better". So far this season, he's looked off-colour. After the goal, you could see the nerves and the anxiety.

Hodgson's management style and way of working may not be to everyone's liking, yet individually and collectively West Brom's players reaped the rewards of all the hours put in on the training ground, where near enough everything they did related to a game situation.
