The lawsuit joins others filed over President Donald Trump's decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which has allowed almost 800,000 immigrants to obtain work permits and deportation protection since 2012.

Meanwhile in San Francisco federal court, six immigrants brought to the United States as children who became teachers, graduate students and a lawyer sued the Trump administration on over its decision to end a program shielding them from deportation.

"Democrats created an out-of-control deportation machine and handed it over to Trump", they said.

"Where was your resistance then?" the protesters said to Pelosi. That support, however, does not seep into Trump's base, which was further angered when Pelosi and Schumer said the DACA deal they had talked about with the president did not include funding for a border wall.

One bipartisan survey, conducted in May, found that almost 8 in 10 Trump voters supported continuation of the programme that protects Dreamers from deportation, if that was the president's choice.

Even Trump's willingness to bypass Republicans in Congress and work with Democrats to strike an immigration bargain failed to faze supporters like Dave Buckett.

The leader of California's state Senate, Democrat Kevin de Leon, suggested the comments made Feinstein complicit in what he called Trump's "reckless behavior".

Trump and Press Secretary Sarah Sanders also denied that the president ever reached an agreement with Pelosi and Schumer about the wall. Asked about the president's view on a deal that confers citizenship, Sanders noted that DACA starts with the word "deferred" and added, "the whole definition says deferred so I think that takes away that permanent piece".

As she was escorted out, Pelosi said: "They don't want the DREAM Act". Campos said her parents brought her to the United States from Mexico before her first birthday.

She said the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Congressional Black Caucus, and Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus were all discussing the legislation "because all of those groups are affected and more, the Irish, the Polish, there are many other groups that are affected, so broader immigration groups as well". "It's all or none".

Laith Ocean, a 20-year-old Northern California junior college student who was among the protesters who shut down Pelosi's event Monday, said Wednesday that the students had acted to make their voices heard.
