Abingdon suspect waives extradition in 1990 Florida clown murder

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Cold Case Unit reopened the investigation into Marlene Warren's murder in 2014.

On May 26, 1990, Marlene Warren answered the front door of her Florida home to see a woman wearing a clown costume, complete with wig and bulb nose, and carrying flowers and balloons-one of which said "You're the greatest!"

But then the clown shot the woman in the face before walking to a white convertible and driving away. The couple had been living in Tennessee.

Police have not said whether Mr Warren was involved in his former wife's death and it is not clear whether Mrs Keen Warren contests the allegations.

Virginia police have arrested Sheila Keen Warren in connection to the 1990 murder of Marlene Warren.

According to NBC News, Warren has been a suspect in the case since the beginning, though new technology has finally allowed prosecutors to retest DNA evidence previously insufficient to charge her. Warren was arrested in Washington County on a charge of first degree murder with use of a firearm.

PBSO Detectives received assistance from the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office, U.S. Marshal's Task Force Western District of Virginia, Detectives from the Washington County Virginia Sheriff's and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations.

Police did identify Sheila Keen Warren as a suspect but she was never arrested. The clown gave her the flowers and balloons.

Her son Joey remembers saying "how pretty" when he saw the floral gifts before watching in horror as his mother was gunned down.

Warren died two days later at a Loxahatchee hospital.

The getaway vehicle, a white Chrysler LeBaron convertible, was also a key part of the initial investigation.

At her home they also found fibers from a bright orange wig. The balloons were bought an hour before the shooting and the salesperson described the woman, who bought the balloons, as having long brown hair like the accused.

The UN secretary general was hopeful that the document would help bolster global efforts to eliminate weapons of mass destruction. French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has called the treaty "wishful thinking" that is "close to irresponsible".

"She went to the door and there was somebody wearing a clown suit and a clown mask, " sheriff's office spokesperson Bob Ferrell told the Sun Sentinel on the day of the murder.
