US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has said that his country intends to keep negotiating a diplomatic solution with North Korea, which in recent months has carried out a series of controversial nuclear arms tests, until the Asian nation drops the first bomb.

Pressed repeatedly on the subject by Tapper on Sunday, Tillerson refused to budge.

Tillerson says in a television interview that Trump "has made clear to me that he wants this solved diplomatically".

He did not, however, deny it.

"The places I come from, we don't deal with that kind of petty nonsense", Tillerson said then.

"I think Secretary Tillerson, Secretary Mattis and Chief of Staff Kelly are those people that help separate our country from chaos", Corker told reporters at the time when asked about allegations of bad blood between Trump and Tillerson.

In Sunday's interview, Tillerson would not deny using the insult about the president.

"You can not publicly castrate your own secretary of state without giving yourself that binary choice", Corker told the Washington Post on Friday.

Donald Trump ridicules anyone who opposes his words or policies mercilessly on Twitter, but Senator Bob Corker seems to be impervious to the president's sophomoric tweets.

At the very end of the clip, Tapper asked again if Tillerson was concerned about being "gelded" in front of the whole world.

But Tillerson said suggestions that he's been undermined have no basis in fact.
