The five-time NBA All-Star forward has had his ups and downs in San Antonio, including his name being lobbed around in trade talks and rumors of his dissatisfaction with a lack of involvement in the Spurs' offense.

A person with knowledge of the agreement told the Associated Press that Aldridge will exercise the $22-million player option on his contract for the 2018-19 season.

LaMarcus Aldridge is extending his stay in San Antonio.

In the United States, a powerful explosion occurred
Sheriff Joe Lopinto of Jefferson Parish said that the search of Lake Pontchartrain would continue for "as long as it takes". The Coast Guard will be conducting a water quality evaluation as well as the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation.

"The contract extension culminates what had been two often-turbulent seasons between Aldridge and the Spurs since his arrival as a free agent from Portland".

The San Antonio Spurs and LaMarcus Aldridge have agreed upon a three-year, $72.3 million contract extension.

Aldridge averaged 17.3 points and 7.3 rebounds, career lows if you exclude his rookie year.

USA withdraws from UNESCO
Israel says it will join the U.S. in pulling out of the UN's cultural organisation after USA officials cited "anti-Israel bias". Israel has always been at loggerheads with Unesco, particularly over its decision to admit the Palestinians as members in 2011.

When the Spurs beat out the Suns, Lakers and several other suitors for Aldridge two summers ago, it was a departure from the franchise's long history of drafting and developing its stars. But the Spurs won 61 games and advanced to the Western Conference finals, where they were swept by the Golden State Warriors after Leonard injured his ankle in Game 1. The extension means Aldridge will actually take a pay cut for the 2017-18 season and earn US$21.4 million.

Aldridge said he feels better about his game and the adjustments that have been made in the offense. With the arrival of Rudy Gay, another wing who can play the four when needed, will Aldridge acquiesce to playing more center than he has in his career to this point?
