BJP to mark November 8 as 'anti-black money day'

Talking to ANI, Tharoor said, "It is absolutely shocking to see that the BJP has a goal to celebrate anti-black money day on November 8". As it is going to be a year since the Narendra Modi government made a decision to ban Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes as a part of demonetisation on November 8 last year, both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the Centre and the Opposition are coming up with their own versions of "note ban".

The BJP has also announced to observe November 8 as anti-black money day across the country.

The meeting was attended by Azad, O Brien, Yadav, Communist Party of India (CPI) Member of Parliament D. Raja, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Member of Parliament Kanimozhi and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Member of Parliament Satish Mishra. "It is wrong to say that India's economic fundamentals are strong and the claim that India's economy is the world's fastest growing economy is factually incorrect", said Sharma. This money was now getting taxed and hence, entering the lawful system.

The Finance Minister said the BJP would carry forward the debate by the opposition to polarise people against black money through its own campaign.

Addressing a press conference, Jaitley said this would be a "priority programme" for the BJP and senior party leaders as well as Union ministers will participate in it.

The finance minister also hit out at the Congress for calling demonetisation the single biggest money laundering scheme and the "scam of the century" by asserting that the Congress had the adequate opportunity to be in power and yet it did not take any significant action to remove black money.

"If morality is still a virtue in India's polity, then it is time for Prime Minister Modi to introspect and demit the office he holds", Sharma and Surjewala said. "I can quite understand their discomfort".

"Instead of apologising for the death of over 150 people and unprecedented strike on the livelihood of common Indians, the BJP is so drunk with power that it wants to celebrate the "Demon of Demonetisation", said the two Congress leaders. Squeezing of cash and that used by terrorists and negating counterfeit currency were the objectives of the note ban. Jaitley said 18 lakh people who deposited money disproportionate to their income will have to pay tax now. They have understood it (demonetization and GST) that is why they have been giving resounding support to the party in all elections.

"The PM remains in arrogant denial of the hardship inflicted on people of country by his reckless decision", Sharma said. It was a legacy that our government has inherited.
