Collins: Clinton Camp Must Explain Dossier Payment

On Sunday, Donald Trump lashed out in a series of tweets at the dossier and said something should be done about Hillary Clinton's links to the "fake dossier", as the United States president put it.

In a series of midmorning Twitter posts, Trump said Republicans were now pushing back against the Russian Federation allegations by looking into Clinton.

Trump's tweets followed a CNN report late Friday that a federal grand jury in Washington has approved the first charges in a criminal investigation into Russian Federation ties led by special counsel Robert Mueller.

"Never seen such Republican ANGER & UNITY as I have concerning the lack of investigation on Clinton made Fake Dossier (now $12,000,000?)", Trump said first in a series of tweets. "There is so much GUILT by Democrats/Clinton, and now the facts are pouring out".

According to a Washington Post report citing people familiar with the matter, Hillary Clinton's campaign and the DNC both contributed funding for research that culminated in the infamous dossier.

Vice President Ali Salehi added that "if the nuclear deal is broken, it will have unpredictable consequences". Tehran views Trump's hostile rhetoric and the new USA sanctions as a violation of the nuclear deal.

In the series of tweets Sunday, the president again attempted to make the larger case that Washington and the rest of the country is consumed by the Justice Department's special counsel probe into whether Trump associates colluded with Russian Federation during the White House race, amid similar issues related to Democrats and others. The president complained late last week that the news media have ignored the uranium deal while focusing on whether any of his campaign aides colluded with Russian Federation.

The subpoena is part of the committee's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, said Trump had been "too defensive" about Mueller's inquiry.

Congress is also looking into allegations of collusion between Trump associates and Russian Federation.

He added that if he "were to guess" who instigated the investigation, "I have one name in mind" - but declined to say who he was thinking of.

The Washington Free Beacon, a conservative website funded by hedge fund billionaire Paul Singer, first retained the firm in 2015, according to the New York Times. Fusion had hired former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele to conduct the research.

Rep. Adam Schiff, Calif., the ranking Democrat on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, said Sunday that "a lot" of the information in the dossier has been corroborated.

However, then-FBI Director James Comey, whom Trump recently fired, concluded the server-email investigation without recommending criminal charges.

Levy also alleges that when Fusion GPS co-founder Peter Fritsch and executive Thomas Catan appeared before the Committee last week, the fact that they had pleaded the Fifth Amendment to every question was leaked to outlets including Fox News-and the information could only have come from committee members or staff.

The research effort expanded in March 2016 under financing from Democrats.

Earlier this month, House and Senate Republican leaders announced they would investigate the uranium deal, and the House Oversight Committee launched a probe into how the FBI investigated Clinton during the campaign.
