LiAngelo Ball, 2 other UCLA players suspended after shoplifting arrest in China

The players were released on bail Wednesday morning in Hangzhou, China, and reportedly did not accompany the team back to Los Angeles after UCLA's 63-60 victory over the Yellow Jackets.

President Donald Trump thinks the UCLA players who were arrested in China on shoplifting charges should be thanking him for his diplomatic outreach.

LiAngelo Ball is a younger brother of former UCLA star Lonzo Ball, now a rookie with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott, the leader of the western USA collegiate athletic conference, said that the matter had "been resolved to the satisfaction of the Chinese authorities".

News of the arrests was widespread not only in the United States but also in China, breaking just a day before Trump arrived in the country. According to a blog that specializes in decoding the Chinese criminal justice system, the players could have received prison sentences of anywhere between one and four years under the worst-case scenario, punishment that likely would have been mitigated by the players' ages and the fact that they appeared to be cooperating with authorities.

UCLA says the school will launch its own investigation to decide whether or not to discipline the players, but a suspension of some sorts will probably be handed down if had to guess.
