DMK retains Marudhu Ganesan as RK Nagar bypoll candidate

Other parts of the country where assembly by-elections will be held on December 21 include Sikandra in Uttar Pradesh, Sabang in West Bengal, and Pakke-Kasang and Likabali in Arunachal Pradesh.

On Tuesday, the Madras High Court asked the EC to conduct bypoll before December 31.

Chennai: The DMK today named N Marudu Ganesh as its candidate for the December 21 bypoll to the Dr Radha Krishnan Nagar assembly constituency here, which fell vacant after the demise of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa.

The RK Nagar seat had been vacant following the demise of former CM J Jayalalithaa - who died at the Apollo Hospital in Chennai earlier past year. The last day to file nomination is December 4 and the last day for withdrawal of nomination is December 7.

The poll in the constituency which was scheduled to be held on 12 April this year, was cancelled by the EC in the wake of allegations of voters being bribed.

"We will win the bypoll with huge margin and prove that we are truly the successors of late Chief Minister and party leader J Jayalalithaa", former MP and spokesperson K C Palaniswamy told IANS. "We released a manifesto this April when the party's presidium Chairman E Madhusoodhanan was contesting (on behalf of deputy CM O Panneerselvam-led AIADMK faction) and there was a separate Edappadi K Palaniswami manifesto (on behalf of TTV Dhinakaran) also that was prepared earlier".

Just after the announcement, VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan and MMK leader M H Jawahirullah announced their support to the DMK candidate. Remember Madhusudhanan was fielded as candidate on behalf of OOPS faction last time.
