Nintendo Delaying 64-Gigabyte Game Cards For Switch Until 2019

The Wall Street Journal recently reported that 64GB Nintendo Switch game cards, originally meant to be available for developers in the second half of 2018, have now been pushed back to 2019 due to technical issues. Currently, the max size of the Nintendo Switch cartridges is 32GB, compared to the 50GB Blu-ray discs used by the PS4 and Xbox One. The plan was to start manufacturing the bigger cards in 2018, in time for incoming third-party software that's in development.

This is an interesting development for Switch fans, but it doesn't exactly come as a surprise that the console has been such a smash hit for Nintendo.

Nintendo Switch would have sold 3,178,100 units in Asia since its launch last March. The sources said the move has brought "slight disappointment" to some developers, especially USA publishers who often need the larger capacity for their data-heavy games.

According to a journalist called Takashi Mochizuki from the Wall Street Journal. And with microSD card prices being more expensive than they should be, with 256GB costing Rs. 8,000 upwards, buying and playing games on the Nintendo Switch seems more expensive than Nintendo advertises it to be.

During their call, the two diplomats also reportedly discussed possible paths forward regarding the conflict in Syria and the situation in Ukraine.

While there is no doubt that downloading games is becoming more and more popular, some still prefer physical media when buying their games. On top of all this, you have users fretting over their memory usage and having to shell out more cash for upgrades. WSJ says that those developers now "may wait" until the larger cartridges are available before releasing their games.

As a result, there are a few publishers that might delay releasing games that need the extra space.

As long as Nintendo keeps growing that already substantial user base, developers will want in, but to keep up sales over the coming years it's going to have to be able to deal with games getting bigger and better.
