Central Intelligence Agency director: China to have bigger footprint than Russian Federation

CIA Director Mike Pompeo has said Russian Federation would target USA mid-term elections later this year as part of the Kremlin's attempt to influence domestic politics across the West, and also warned the world had to do more to push back against Chinese meddling. Mike Pompeo told the news network that the Chinese had a much bigger "footprint" than the Russians.

"Think about the scale of the two economies", Mr Pompeo said of Russian Federation and China.

On January 17, former Central Intelligence Agency officer Jerry Chun Shing Lee was arrested at the John F Kennedy Airport in NY, for allegedly spying for China.

Asked if the Russians would try to influence the mid-term elections, he said: "Of course. It is also true in other parts of the world. including Europe and the United Kingdom", he said.

Pompeo said the efforts at stealing information, infiltrating the schools, government and medical facilities by the Chinese can be seen not only in the United States but also in Europe and the United Kingdom.

Officials are unsure whether the disastrous intelligence failure was due to a mole or a data hack. Mike Pompeo added that the Chinese have also used ways of espionage in order to influence the American companies entering the Chinese market.

"We're going to work on those complicated problem sets and push back against the Iranians everyplace we can", he told the BBC.
