Users can now ask Alexa to simply send a text message, and the voice assistant will do the rest. However, you can ask Alexa to send "a text", as that will command her to send SMS messages to your contacts.

You can still tell Alexa to "send a message" but if you do that, it will try and send it via the Alexa app first.

Once you pick someone who's in your Contacts within the Alexa app, you can recite your message.

You should be aware that carrier charges apply, text-to-911 is not available, and MMS (picture messages) and group messages are not supported.

With the same smart-assistant capabilies as the other Echo products, Amazon is hoping for the Spot to be seen as another entry-point into their smart-device ecosystem.

Dropping a hint about what Amazon may reveal during its Super Bowl ad on Sunday, February 4, Bezos's assistant reassures him: "We have the replacement ready, just say the word". It is expected that all three accents would be available to U.S. users in the near future.
