Loyola Chicago v. Michigan (Final Four)

Posted April 05, 2018

The Loyola men's basketball team (32-6, 15-3) saw its season come to an end with a 69-57 loss to the University of MI in San Antonio March 31. However, in the second half, MI fought all the way back.

Loyola-Chicago is only the fourth No. 11 seed to reach the national semifinals. "I can not believe anyone would insinuate she gave up on these kids", assistant athletic director for communications at Loyola, Bill Behrns, told USA TODAY Sports.

Loyola turned it over on three straight possessions and Wagner tipped in a miss by Poole, was fouled and converted the three-point play to put MI up 54-47 with just under five minutes left.

Wagner, Charles Matthews and the Wolverines erased a 10-point second-half deficit and MI beat the Ramblers 69-57 Saturday night in the Final Four. The Ramblers had no answer for MI star Moe Wagner. Tip-off between the Michigan Wolverines and Villanova Wildcats is set for 9:20 p.m. ET on TBS. Sister Jean Dolores-Schmidt and her favorite team, the Missouri Valley Conference champions, making their first NCAA appearance since 1985, will return to Chicago as heroes, regardless.

The Michigan Wolverines proved to be too much for the Ramblers.

Although the Wolverines held a 21-18 edge in total rebounds and an 8-2 advantage in offensive boards, they committed eight turnovers and seven personal fouls against just six giveaways from the Ramblers.

During a rough year for College Basketball, Loyola was a breath of fresh air for not only Chicago but for the nation as well. Assists - Loyola of Chicago 6 (Ingram 2), MI 8 (Simpson 3).
