Syrian Sources Claim Israeli Missiles Found at Bombed Bases

The Israelis are seeking Iran's reaction so that they could start an extensive conflict in Syria, Davod Hermidas-Bavand, a politics professor, told ILNA on Monday. The Orient news outlet noted that the base was known to be the headquarters of Iranian militiamen and had been "heavily involved" in attacks against rebel forces in the area.

A missile attack on two Syrian bases with Iranian military presence has caused at least 26 deaths on Sunday, including fighters from Tehran and allied forces, according to Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an independent NGO that It documents warlike activities in civil war in Arab country.

The Syrian army has described the strikes as new "aggression" by its enemies, state television said.

The sources said that remains of GBU-35 "smart precision missiles" - missiles that can pinpoint targets and provide a great deal of explosive power in a small amount of explosives - were found at the site of at least one of the bases hit.

The security cabinet was expected to discuss recent events in Syria, including an overnight strike on military positions and weapons caches which a monitor group said was "likely" carried out by Israel. Earlier this month, a suspected Israeli attack on the T4 airbase in Homs province killed seven Iranian military personnel.

Syria President Bashar al-Assad, whose main allies are Russian Federation and Iran, did not explicitly mention the overnight strikes but said "hostile countries have shifted to a stage of direct aggression". Among the dead, foreign fighters are also included, with a large number of Iranians.

Powerful explosions have been heard in the countryside of Hama and Aleppo provinces, the Syrian state news agency reports.

He also said that Israel "will prevent Iran from establishing a forward base in Syria at any cost".
