Atlanta Braves Call Up Mike Soroka To Start Against New York Mets

Posted May 04, 2018

A first-round pick in the 2015 draft, Soroka has posted strong numbers at every stop on the way to the big leagues.

Mets right-hander Jacob deGrom has left their game against Atlanta after hyperextending his right elbow.

DeGrom left Citi Field during the game to receive an MRI on his elbow; the results are expected on Thursday. DeGrom underwent Tommy John surgery in 2011 and an ulnar nerve repositioning surgery in 2016.

In his four Triple-A starts this season, Soroka has a 1.99 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 24 strikeouts versus five walks in 22 2/3 innings.

DeGrom was injured while striking out swinging in the third inning.

Freddie Freeman hit a two-run double while Atlanta scored three times in the first inning off Noah Syndergaard.

In the review I did on top right-handed pitching prospects in the game, I mentioned that Soroka works with two distinct fastballs, a change, and then he has utilized a soft and a hard curve over the previous year, with the latter looking similar to a slider, so many reports consider it such.
