Senate, House call special session to possibly impeach Greitens

Missouri state lawmakers on Thursday called a special session to consider impeaching embattled Republican Gov. Eric Greitens.

The first-term Republican governor also faces a May 14 trial in St. Louis on a felony invasion-of-privacy indictment for allegedly taking and transmitting a nonconsensual photo of an at least partially nude woman in March 2015.

The special investigative committee's work would have to stop when the legislature adjourns but the special session will allow more time for the process to play out.

"We will not avoid doing what is right just because it is hard or just because it was not the path we hoped to travel", Richardson said.

Among the measures to preserve the illusion of Putin's popular support was the exclusion of Navalny himself from the election. Amnesty International said its representatives saw the "Cossacks" pummel protesters with whips and fists as police looked on.

The publisher of Missouri Times says he paid his own money to buy audiotapes made by the ex-husband of a woman who had an affair with Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens and that he meant to use them to write a book.

The House has already released two scathing reports against the governor.

"This was not a decision made lightly and certainly not without great deliberation and effort", Missouri House Speaker Todd Richardson said.

Another defense memo filed later Thursday provides more claims of perjury by the prosecution's once lead investigator and witnesses and the state's alleged failures to disclose evidence. If the House votes to impeach Greitens, which requires 82 votes, the Senate then would appoint a panel of seven judges to conduct a trial on whether to remove him from office. "But make no mistake about it, today's actions ensure that there will be a conclusion to this process", said Richardson.

"We stand ready to do it if called upon", he said.

Greitens has called the allegations in both instances part of a smear campaign orchestrated by his political opponents.

The report released Wednesday by a House investigatory committee says Greitens signed an agreement in 2012 not to disclose confidential information about donors to The Mission Continues. But Greitens has refused to budge.

"I will have my day in court". This prosecutor can come after me with everything she's got, but as all faithful people know: In time comes the truth.

That was not the case for the Lightning, who consistently won battles with either their speed or their physicality. The latter could be an interesting option for a team that's struggled to generate offense over the last two games.
