The storm will bring powerful winds and heavy rains as it moves into the Tennessee Valley on Tuesday and Wednesday, the hurricane center said.

Subtropical Storm Alberto strengthened slightly overnight as it continued to move over the eastern Gulf of Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center, but Louisiana continues to appear to be in the clear when it comes to the heavier rainfall associated with the system.

Tropical Storm Warnings remain in place along the Gulf coast.

Bay County emergency management officials held a news briefing Sunday, and said that due to tides and when the storm is expected to hit, any surge isn't a major concern.

"Heavy rains and gusty winds continue to spread northward over Florida", the National Hurricane Center tweeted.

Early forecasts from the Weather Prediction Center show an inch of rain falling over the next seven days across much of Upstate.

At the moment its growth is being hindered by strong winds in the upper atmosphere, but as the storm tracks northwards these winds are expected to ease, allowing the storm to complete its transition into a fully tropical system.
