After surveillance video from a business showed Hernandez traveling south on Highway 1 into Monterey County, the Monterey County Sheriff's Office took over the search on Thursday.

She was last seen on CCTV at a filling station on 6 July, about 80km north of where she was found. She told investigators she had swerved to avoid an animal.

A 23-year-old OR musician who had been missing for a week was found alive at the bottom of a California cliff in the wreckage of her auto, where she survived on water from her Jeep's radiator.

"We saw a bumper first and we were like, 'Hmm, there's a bumper. Number one, to survive a 250-foot plunge with a vehicle to the ocean, to the rocky bottom of the ocean there, to keep your wits about you, she had water coming into her auto". "Angela was right there in the rocks, just looked like hell", said Chad Moore.

The Portland woman said she used a hose that fell off her vehicle to collect water dripping from moss to drink. Including her auto, which was her livelihood.

Hernandez ability to attract help was limited by her injuries and the rocky coastline. She was able to break out a window and got out onto the beach. The woman survived by drinking her wrecked car's radiator water until she was discovered by hikers.

"My sister is alive, she's talking, and she's still trying to come to understanding everything", she wrote Saturday on Facebook.

She was spotted on Friday by two hikers who found her yelling for help on the remote Monterey County beach. "I couldn't believe that we had finally found each other".
